Support Services
Our Approach to Cancer Support Services
Cancer treatment isn’t just about treating the disease — your overall well-being is just as important. That’s why we provide our patients with dedicated support services to help make life easier throughout treatment and beyond.
Our team cares for cancer patients every day, so we understand how a cancer diagnosis may impact you and your family. We support your social and emotional needs and connect you with organizations that can assist you with various other needs.
In addition, many of our cancer treatment centers have licensed social workers as part of your caregiving team. These professionals are equipped to provide mental health support, including depression screenings, counseling, and in-person and virtual support groups. They’re also knowledgeable about resources like disability services, medication assistance programs, and advance care planning, if needed.
As our patient, you can access our support services throughout your cancer treatment. Our team provides:
Cancer community resources
Our team is knowledgeable about resources in your area that help with everyday needs, including:
- Home healthcare, medical equipment, and supplies
- Medicaid disability applications
- Translation services
- Transportation to appointments
Financial counseling for cancer treatment
Once you and your physician have finalized a treatment plan, your financial counselor will provide an estimate of your benefits and out-of-pocket expenses. We assist with:
- Payment assistance resources
- Referrals and prior authorizations for treatment
- Verification of insurance benefits

Mental health counseling during cancer treatment
Our licensed clinical and master social workers provide therapeutic counseling for mental health conditions at many Texas Oncology locations. Patients also receive depression screenings to help detect this condition sooner.
If there is no on-site social worker at your clinic, we can help you choose a local counselor or mental health specialist. We also offer free virtual support groups, which allow you to connect with others from the comfort of your home.
Nutrition counseling
Cancer can change your appetite and how food tastes. Our registered dietitians can create a plan that helps you get the nutrients you need and suits your preferences.
If you would like nutrition counseling, ask your physician for a referral. Please note that your insurance may not cover this service. You may also consider our free virtual nutrition education classes, which are available in select areas.
