Clinical Trials
Clinical Trials at Texas Oncology
Texas Oncology offers clinical trials through Sarah Cannon Research Institute (SCRI), one of the world’s leading oncology research organizations conducting community-based clinical trials. SCRI has contributed to pivotal research that has led to the majority of new cancer therapies approved by the FDA today.
Our clinical trials program provides access to innovative cancer therapies at more than 55 locations throughout Texas. Thousands of patients participate in our program each year, receiving the newest treatments before they’re widely available.
What are clinical trials?
Cancer treatment is constantly improving, and Texas Oncology is at the forefront of this effort. Each year, we enroll more than 2,200 patients with many types and stages of cancer in clinical trials. On average, we offer more than 170 open national clinical trials at any time. Through these trials, we’ve helped develop more than 100 FDA-approved cancer therapies.
These trials not only give you access to new therapies, but they also provide you with expert care from our dedicated physicians and research coordinators. This team follows you closely before, during, and after your trial to monitor treatment success.
Benefits of Clinical Trials
Our clinical trials program is one of the largest in the region, paving the way for future cancer therapies. Participating in a clinical trial allows you to:
- Access new treatments
- Receive expert medical care from a leading-edge team
- Help further medical research, which may benefit you and future patients
What Can I Expect with Clinical Trials?
Contrary to myths you may have heard, clinical trials don’t treat patients like test subjects. In fact, patients who participate in clinical trials are getting access to fully regulated treatments with strong safety measures in place. We inform you of the benefits and risks before you begin treatment, and we follow strict medical ethical guidelines.
