Uterine Cancer Diagnosis at Texas Oncology
Texas Oncology specialists are equipped to diagnose uterine cancer and may use the following tests:
Physical exam
A doctor performs a physical exam to look at potential signs of uterine cancer, such as abnormal vaginal bleeding or discharge.
Endometrial biopsy
Using a thin, flexible tube, a small amount of endometrium is removed and examined under a microscope by a pathologist.
Ultrasound
This test uses sound waves to create images of the uterus and can help detect abnormal masses or irregular uterine lining thickening, which may suggest uterine cancer.
Computed tomography (CT) scan
A CT scan provides detailed images of body tissues and organs to determine the extent and spread of uterine cancer.
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
An MRI scan is an imaging test that uses magnetic waves to create detailed images of the body. It is used to provide pictures of the tumor from various angles.
Positron emission tomography (PET)
A PET scan is an imaging test where a very small amount of radioactive material is injected into a vein. Cancer cells can absorb the substance, which the PET machine will detect and use to create images of the body and organs to help find or localize the cancer.
